The Great Train Robbery

Growing up in New Bethill had always been a trip. Meaning people acted a fool, ran around with questionable motives, crazy thoughts and irresponsibly without accountability for their behavior. It seems many of these folk hung at Mr. Miller’s Bar and there was always talk the individuals that frequented the place. Especially during the summer months on a normal day. When the heat was at its height at that six hour was the exact time, lifeless souls emerged and wandered about dragging to the corner store, or to the liquor store or down the block to the grocers. Countless others ignoring the time of day walked inside Bernie’s Bar and dwelled there until the moon and all its stars twinkled at its brightest.

Cordelia and her sisters were seated on the front porch. They had lived a mound away from the railroad tracks. learned to ignore the sound of the trains when they sailed down the tracks, with rabbit speed enroute to some place other than New Bethill. It was a hot day in August and the temperature had been dialed up until it was hotter than hell and every demon that one could imagine was out delving out bad thoughts and ideas like sun rays when the train crashed.

The bang was so loud it caused the street to tremble. Neighbors came out of their houses with alarm.
